The Photographer

I grew up with a camera in hand. Taking hundreds of snapshots of friends and places with a basic point and shoot, then eventually shifting to film with a Canon Rebel in 1999 then onto digital eventually. A self-taught photographer at first, I read a lot of books and met with photographers to get started. I’ve studied under Mark Floro (Food Photography) and Lito Sy (Portrait Photography), Ibarra Deri (Portait and Studio Photography) trained in the USA under the top newborn photographers there. I also have taken workshops at the Philippine Center for Creative Imaging (PCCI) and attend workshops by top photographers as much as I can. Coming from a 9-year advertising background and working with top photographers in the country has definitely influenced me as well.

I fell in love with black and white photography while on a trip to Paris in 1997 and seeing Robert Dosineau’s work. Photographing children became a passion of mine quickly after and I started out taking photos of my 5 little brothers, sisters and cousins and then moved on to the children of my friends. I moved from a hobbyist into a professional in 2008 and haven’t looked back since.

I also enjoy travel photography and had my first solo exhibit at the One Workshop Gallery in Makati entitled INDOCHINE INTROSPECTIVE in January 2007 for my travel photos.  My second solo exhibit “Bubble Genesis”  was in 2009 which was more of an abstract series done underwater. I have won several awards both locally and internationally.

My work has been featured in local photography magazines iMag Photography *(cover and featured photographer) and Digital Camera UK. Mycommercial work has been featured in Smart Parenting Magazine, WorkingMom Magazine, Cradle Magazine, UrbanMom Magazine, newspapers such as Philippine Daily Inquirer, Philippine Star, Good Housekeeping, and several popular blogs and websites in Manila, Philippines. I have worked with brands like EQ Diaper, Johnson’s Baby, Ainon Baby and St. Patrick Clothing for print ad work.

I am an award-winning member of the National Association of Professional Child Photographers (NAPCP), USA and WPPP (Wedding and Portrait Photographers of the Philippines), INP (International Newborn Photographers),and CCD (Club de Camera Digital).

For me, nothing is more fulfilling than capturing a moment, a wonderful play of light on a subject, an expression or an emotion that speaks volumes at first glance.

I would say that my style of photography is a celebration of life. I like capturing magical moments, the giggles and twinkles in their eyes, the hugs out of the blue and wet kisses…. I try to combine classic portraiture with artistic and more modern treatments and natural expressions. I also value simplicity in my work. It is important to let the child’s personality emerge through the photos.

I really love what we do and it is such a blessing to be living this dream.
